Purpose:

To approve that

 

·        The Corridor Improvement Programme Wakefield A650 Newton Bar scheme proceeds through decision point 5 and work commences on activity 6 (Delivery).

 

·        Approval to an additional £8.285 million from the West Yorkshire plus Transport Fund (WY+TF) is given, taking the total approval from the WY+TF to £8.635 million. The total scheme value is £8.720 million.

 

·        The Combined Authority enters into a funding variation agreement with Wakefield Council for expenditure of up to £8.635 million from the WY+TF.

Reasons for the decision:

To enable work to commence on the scheme to deliver a major junction improvement at the existing roundabout and approach roads around the A650 at Newton Bar, Wakefield.

 

The completed scheme will deliver reduced journey times for all motorised vehicles, including bus services, along the route by 8% by 2025. Additional footpaths and cycleways will be provided by 2022, while improved road safety would reduce the number of collisions by 10% by 2025.
